Schola's disc boosts hospice

The Schola of the church of St Peter and St John in Camberley, Surrey, has recorded a selection of sacred choral pieces to raise money for the hospice which cared for one of its members before he died.

John Wyeth, leader of the Schola, said: "One of our former members, Peter Cassidy, received such sensitive care and support from the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice before his untimely death in 2008. We all wanted to give some tangible support to this remarkable hospice by doing something which Peter loved:_singing."

The Schola decided that profits from their CD, entitled Be Still for the Presence of the Lord, would go to support the work of this remarkable organisation.

The Schola was formed in 2000 to enhance the Holy Week liturgy and continues to offer an occasional element of traditional music throughout the year, usually singing before the start of Mass and at periods of personal reflection. Currently the Schola has 15 members.

Be Still for the Presence of the Lord, by the Schola of the church of St Peter and St John, Camberley, is available from Charborough Music, from the Schola's website www.spjschola.org.uk and from amazon.co.uk.

MP3 versions of all the tracks may be downloaded from Amazon and the Apple iTunes store. The CD contains 18 pieces including classical works, hymns and some more modern church music, which went on sale this week. It includes a Holy Week sequence: seven pieces to aid reflection on the events of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
