KNIGHTS OF ST Columba and their families from all over Scotland have gathered at the Carfin Marian shrine for their 21st annual pilgrimage.
They also met to mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Knights in Glasgow. The celebrant, Bishop Joseph Devine of Motherwell diocese was joined by Fr Andrew O’Sullivan, chaplain to Province 16 and Deacon Jim Aitken.
Bishop Devine in his address spoke of the charitable work of the order and praised the members for the continuing support they provide to Carfin Grotto. The Knights of St Columba have been associated with Carfin Grotto for the past 84 years, stewarding many of the great gatherings.
Brother Jonjo McDonagh, the Supreme Knight, thanked all those who attended and took part in the Mass, in particular the choir and the altar servers who had given up their time on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Carfin Pilgrimage Centre belongs to the Diocese of Motherwell. It is situated alongside Carfin Grotto, the national Marian shrine of Scotland in the heart of Lanarkshire. The centre opened in June 1996.
