Cardinal opens college archives and library

CARDINAL Jean-Louis Tauran, Archivist of the Vatican Secret Archives and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church, formally opened the Archives and Third Library of the Venerable English College in Rome during a short ceremony on February 19, writes Peter Jennings.

He said: "When you possess good archives, when you enjoy a good library, it means you believe in your future." Addressing the students the French cardinal said: "This college is a link in a long chain. Dear students of today, you have the privilege to be a bridge between yesterday and tomorrow.

"Draw from this unique heritage, which so often speaks about the courage and the perseverance of the English Catholic, inspiration for your service to the Church."
