Nineteen 'spies' arrested

in China Nationalist

NINETEEN people have been arrested in Tientsin on charges of spying " under the camouflage of the Catholic Church," according to the pro Communist Hong Kong news

paper Ta Kung Pao.

They were accused, said the paper, of working for the Chinese

intelligence as members of the "Catholic Youth Loyalty Corps." They have been recommended for severe punishment

for abusing religion " in this manner. the paper added.

A number of native missionaries are reported to have been executed in China and. say British officials in Hong Kong, several score of foreign missionaries— Catholic and Protestant—have been arrested.
