A CENTRE for spiritual, intellectual and human assistance has been opened for Pygmies in the Diocese of Kole, in the Pelenge region, in the heart of Congo.
Dedicated to St Seraphim, the centre is the work of local Bishop Stanislas Lukumwena Lumbala, and two Agnus Dei missionaries. The centre will assist some 3,000 Pygmies.
Bishop Lukumwena last month administered the sacrament of confirmation to 100 Pygmies and Bantus tribesmen.
The Pygmies, who often face marginalisation, were urged to be autonomous and not to feel inferior to the Bantus.
