Archbishop Smith wins award

ARCHBISHOP Peter Smith of Cardiff and the Anglican Archbishop of Wales, Barry Morgan, were awarded Honorary Fellowships by the University of Wales Lampeter last Friday.

The fellowships honour individuals who have made a distinctive contribution to their field or to public life.

In addition to his formal duties as Archbishop of Cardiff since 2001, Archbishop Smith is Chairman of the Department of Christian Responsibility and Citizenship of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. He is also chairman of the Catholic Truth Society, and chairman of the Central Religious Advisory committee at the BBC and ITC.

He was also a member of Lord Nolan’s independent review on child protection in the Catholic Church that published its report in 2001.
