Whiskers raise hundreds of pounds for charity

THROUGHOUT November the teachers at the Barlow RC High School in East Didsbury, Greater Manchester, groomed, trimmed and waxed their way into moustache history books.
Supported by their “MoSistas” (the female teachers who have invested in a fine array of stick-on whiskers), “MoBros” at the Barlow sought sponsorship for their moustache-growing efforts. In return for their donations, pupils had the opportunity to choose the style of moustache grown by their teachers. Everyone at the school was active in organising and supporting “Cash for the Tash” collec tions, quizzes and even a cake sale. As a result, the school has raised more than £600 for the Prostate Cancer Charity.
For the 30 days of November, through their actions and responses to the question “why the moustache?”, staff at the school raised awareness of the often ignored men’s health issue.
Mr John, deputy head of maths, whose uncle died earlier this year from prostate cancer, said: “I am delighted that so many of the staff have been prepared to compromise their personal appearance by supporting the cause.”
