By GEORGINA BREWER AthS THE BOSNIAN TOWN of Bihac set to fall under e continued assault of surrounding Bosnian Serbs, Catholic Church leaders in the war zones of the former Yugoslavia have condemned the "immoral attitude" of the United Nations, who threaten to withdraw from the region.
Bishop Franjo Komarica of Banja Luka, speaking in Rome, criticised "the horror, the death, the humiliation". The Bishop's northern Bosnian diocese includes Muslim-held Bihac.
Bishop Komarica went on to say: "The tragic escalation of this absurd war has not shaken the indifference
of the world."
The Bishop's comments echoed those made by Cardinal Pale of Sarajevo at his induction into the College of Cardinals last week.
Cardinal Puljic said: "I cannot understand the attitude of the United Nations, which declares itself neutral, but with this neutrality accepts the law of the strongest to the detriment of the weakest."
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Catholic Relief Services, who provide humanitarian aid to Bosnia, said this week that the physical and psychological toll on the victims of the Bosnian war meant that there was a constant "undercurrent of stress".
