ANTISEMITIS M IN U. S. A.

A Growing Menace

From our Own Correspondent

New YORK.

" The rising tide of anti-Semitism haa become the occasion of grave concern on the part of Government officials," the N.C.W.C. News Service reports in a release to Catholic papers (N.C.W.C. News Service takes its initials from the National Catholic Welfare Conference, established by the American hierarchy in 1919, and operates under the direction of the Bishops).

Anti-Semitism, according to the N.C.W.C., has " become a disturbing element in . the American domestic situation."

The •statement by the N.C.W.C. is the latest of several which have been made in the Catholic Press, warning against the menace of growing anti-Semitism.

In many places anti-Semitic propaganda amongst Catholics has resulted in the formation of secret societies which are rabid and virtually violent in their assaults on Jews.

Anti-Semitism has been fostered in some cities by the practices of employers who hire only Jews or only Catholics.

BLAMED ON THE JEWS

The recent large Jewish immigration froth Germany MP made the situation more difficult. If the recall of the American Ambassador and Commercial Attacha from Germany results in a collapse of German-American. trade, the deficit in American business will be blamed on • the Jews, giving another impetus to American anti-Semitism.
