Liberals hinder unity

CARDINAL Suenens looks forward to unity between the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches by the year 2.000. The Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission has come to some agreement on the nature of the Eucharist.

It is difficult for a layman to understand the nature of the agreement. couched as it is in theological language. I wonder how it will be presented from the pulpit over the next few years' Are we to be told that the Host is more or less the Real Presence of our Lord: more or less a sacrifice: more or less merely a memorial of' the Last Supper?

C S Lewis said it is not the extremists who hinder church unity but the liberal, accommodating fringe.
