-.MGR MICHA-EL BUCK L EY, April 24. says that the church has done little to understand much less counteract the insidious influence of Moonies.
Several times I have been approached in our high street and asked to contribute money towards this "charity" and have had conversations with the members.
One of them told me I could not be a true Christian or hope to go to Heaven unless I joined them. One denied that Christ is God and challenged me to quote a text from the Bible in which he claimed to be God. Others genuinely believed that they had joined an interdenominational Christian group. Two of them were Catholics but obviously not church-going since they said that none of the Churches are in any way involved in charitable work but "only pray".
I wonder whether the solution would be for the Christian churches form inter-denominational youth clubs in which they could share appreciation for each other's churches and the charitable work they all do and acknowledge the beliefs which the all share while accepting the comparatively minor differences.
