Symbol of the Risen Christ

THE building of new churches and chapels all over Britain is one of the signs of the vitality of the Church in England and Wales, the cause for which we pray especially this weekend, "Home Mission Sunday." That is why we choose for our front-page picture the nearly completed 15 foot statue of Christ for the new church of the Sacred Heart being built at Bushey, Hertfordshire. It is carved by Mr. John A. Green. The statue will be completed with the representation of the Sacred Heart but, as it now stands it can be taken to represent with striking force the Risen Christ. Devotion to the Risen Christ, as especially symbolic of the spirit of the Liturgy of today, is increasing in popularity.
