General Royston

CONVERT SOLDIER OF NATAL Genera! (" Galloping Jack ") Royston, who has died at the age of 81, saw service in the Zulu War, the Boer War, and in the last war. " Natal," says the Daily Telegraph in its issue of April 28, " may well be proud of her soldier son." A contributor sends the following Appreciation; " The South African Church might well be proud. too. in 1940 General Royston. who had been always a good neighbour to the Mariannhill Fathers on one of their Mission Stations, came to join the Church at Port Shepstone on the Natal south coast. Brave as on the battlefield. he came to Mass regularly, on feast days in a general's uniform, the latest and • least ' recruit in Christ the King's army. Together with tome little children he received Holy Communion in May, 1941, and Confirmation from Bishop Adalbcro of the Marainnhill Vicariate. He has now ' galloped ' into the presence of the King of Kings."
