QUICK UST La Defence de Calais. A French version for

schools of Eric Linklaker's best-seller pamphlet. (1-1.M. Stationery Office, 4d., or I55. for 50 copies.) The C.O. and National Service Acts is a complete and practical guide for conscientious objectors about to face their tribunal. and for their advisers on the board. (C.B.C.0.. 6d.) Turkey. Miss Barbara Ward's able study of this diplomatically allimportant country gives a balanced picture of its difficult position and state. (Oxford University Press, 2s. 6d.) Between God and Man. John Hadtnan, author of Good God. gives a very modernistic twist to current demand for return to Christianity, arguing that for 400 years the Churches have refused to adjust their doctrines to current fashions—which he thinks a great pity, though we don't. (Longmans. 3s. 6d) The Life of Mother Mary Philomena Juliana Morel. This tiography of a French Servile nun, who worked in England and died in her native land in 1894, is a colourless and un inspiring production. It is a pity' that a life of so much goodness and devotion should be presented to the public as a series of pious platitudes (and not always useful platitudes), cliches from the repository for the sale of " religious articles."
