Catholic students break a tennis world record

THREE schoolgirls have proved to be a smash hit by helping to break a world record at a tennis club in Chesterfield to raise money for charity.
The trio, from Mount St Mary’s College in Spinkhill and Barlborough Hall School in Derbyshire, took part in an attempt to break the world record for the most people to simultaneously bounce a tennis ball on a racquet for 10 seconds.
Talitha and Emilia Thompson, from Spinkhill and Kate Edmunds from Doncaster were part of the group of 394 people from the Chesterfield area who smashed the world record at Chesterfield Lawn Tennis Club in sweltering tempera tures on Sunday, June 26. The pupils were joined by former Mount St Mary’s student Will Cooper in the attempt, which raised £400 for Chesterfield charity, Fairplay.
Laurence McKell, headmaster at Mount St Mary’s College, said: “Congratulations to our three pupils and former student Will Cooper for their contribution to what was a very unique world record attempt, “With Wimbledon in full swing it is great to see them joining the local community for this tennis-themed charity challenge and it is fantastic that they also raised money to support and benefit children from Fairplay.”
