THE LAST defendant charged in connection with the 2005 murder of USborn Sister Dorothy Stang has been found guilty in a Brazilian court and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Rancher Regivaldo Galvao was convicted of ordering the killing of the 73-year-old Sister of Notre Dame de Namur, who was known for her fight against large landowners in the Amazon region. In a packed courtroom in Belem Galvao remained motionless as the judge read the sentence after the jury trial. He was accused, along with landowner Vitalmiro Bastos de Moura, of ordering the assassination. Moura was found guilty in connection and also received a 30-year prison sentence.
