How to Live a Simple Life

BBC TWO, 9PM, FRIDAY, MAY 7

When Peter Owen Jones returned to Britain after filming Around the World in 80 Faiths he had a dismal realisation: his countrymen were locked in a pointless cycle of working and spending. So he decided to imitate St Francis of Assisi and embrace “voluntary poverty”. For the next eight months he tried to live without money, relying on bartering, subsistence farming and, of course, the kindness of strangers. This is the first in an engaging three-part series capturing the Anglican cleric’s struggle to free himself from mammon.
