How we should end the month of prayer

From Mr Diarmuid Collins SIR – In response to the clerical abuse scandal, the Bishops’ Conference is inviting Catholics to “deep prayer of reparation and atonement” during the four Fridays of May (Report, April 30). The bishops’ fine letter ends by saying: “The Holy Spirit guides us to sorrow and repentance and to a renewal of love and generosity to all in need.” At the end of this month of prayer maybe our dear bishops could conse crate England and Wales to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart. This entrustment would (also) have many spiritual benefits, I feel.

It is good to see a renewal of our Christian commitments. These special prayers, combined with the solemn “act of consecration”, would certainly strengthen our “faith and hope” as we go towards the future.

Yours faithfully, DIARMUID COLLINS London N13
