A double rupture

From Mr Stephen de la Bedoyere SIR – It is quite impressive (Science and Faith, April 23) to see Catholic parents sharing knowledge of sexual reproduction with their young children via the shared experience of childbirth.

However when these same children reach adolescence the facility with which agents outside the family persuade these same young people to separate the sexual and reproductive functions, via widespread use of contraception and even abortion, is quite strange.

There is a double rupture here: that between a mother and her potential baby, and between the same girl and her own parents, who are often kept completely out of the picture.

Yours faithfully, STEPHEN DE LA BEDOYERE London SW17
