THE fashionistas of Stoke-onTrent displayed their own designs when textiles students at St Joseph’s college staged their annual fashion show.

Design + Technology (Textiles) is one of the fastest growing departments at the Catholic college in Trent Vale, Staffordshire, with over 40 would-be designers taking public examinations.

The catwalk event featured GCSE, AS and A2 level students.

Kate Bills’s blue sequined dress was inspired by the ocean. Madelaine Kane, 16, based her brown taffeta creation on the elegance of the 1940s and 1950s. She wants to become a designer and said: “It is wonderful to know that you are creating something that has a really close connection to your own life and interests.” Beth Brayford, 18, designed her cousin’s wedding dress. She said: “The course teaches you so much about classic styling, how to create shape, embroidery, machining, colour coordination and so much more.” Roisin Maguire, St Joseph’s College headteacher, said: “Textiles has become an increasingly popular option.”
