SUNDAY This is the Day (B BC I, I2.15pm). The Rev Bill Sargent preaches on the theme of fear. Should put me into the mood for roast beef.

Omnibus (BBC!, 10.35pm) Bob Hoskins, one of those delightful 'regional' actors wanders about Coin Street, near Waterloo. I do hope he'll be all right. If he avoids the razor gangs, he should have time to say how much he hates modern planners. One day we may hope to see grimy figures, their coats tied about with string trudging about the cab stands of the Elephant and Castle or down the Waterloo Road, gasping out "Spare a copper for an old planner, guy."

MONDAY Pebble Mill At One (BBC1, 1.00pm). This thing is generally populated by people whose publicity agents have got them on to talk about their new show. But who cares when it's dear old Barry Humphries doing Edna Everage? If the Argies knew that colonials were like this, they would never have wanted to absorb the Kelpers.

WEDNESDAY

Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (BBC2, 8.20pm). In these graceful surroundings, young people are encouraged to sit on cushions and listen to concerts., Cushion is a word of Arab origin, I believe. Moreover,Julian

Lloyd Webber, Richard Baker and Angela Rippon will be there. I shall go to drink some strong coffee with my friend the Ayatollah instead.

THURSDAY Blue Peter (BBC1, 5.10pm) The Queen Mother opens the renovated Temperance House at Kew Gardens, so the BBC say in their press handout. Surely shome mishtake'?

Travellers in Time (BBC2, 7.40pm). This one's even better. The BBC say of this 1921, film of the South Seas. "It tells the story of an expedition to 'the vast mystery island of Papua inhabited by savages, largely untrodden by white men-. I should hope so

too, though if the record of Lord Randolph Churchill was anything to go by. I should doubt it.

FRIDAY

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (BBC2, 5.40pm). This 1920 John Barrymore performance is of course silent so we shall never know how he thought the good doctor's name was pronounced.

Radio Three

The Seeds of Cleverness (Wednesday, 7pm). Professor Arthur Jensen has been saying since 1969 that black people's genes make them stupider. A.H, Halsey says that Jensen is stupid too. Lots of money in stupidity, ol course.
