Shade and Light in Morocco

From Our Own Correspondent The Spanish Frente Popular and the French Front Populaire in Tangier, who never miss an opportunity of displaying their animosity against religion, and, on April 14, the sixth anniversary of the Spanish Republic, flocked in tremendous numbers to the Cervantes Theatre to witness a satirical performance entitled "Las Hormigas Rojas (the Red Ants), in which obscene and ribald jests were made against the Catholic Church and clergy.

The Marxist Press here is also indefatigable in its nefarious propaganda, hence it is a common sight to see Fathers of the Franciscan missions, Nationalists and Italians, insulted in the streets of Tangier.

This state of affairs is of deep concern to Mgr. Betanzos, Bishop of Gallipoli and Apostolic Vicar for Spanish Morocco with residence in this city.

Last week, the Bishop returned from a pastoral tour of three weeks' duration in the Spanish zone.

Among those who came to offer His Excellency their respectful congratulations were the Dutch, Italian and Portuguese Ministers, the representatives of General Franco in Tangier, and the Spanish and Italian Administrators of the International ,,Zone.
