In St. Gregory Naziaxisten the Chnreh in the fourth etinturv had a great bishop and theologian to wage war against the Arian !heresy. He ruled ale see of Constantinople. St. Gregory is honoured as a Doctor of the Church and is called the Divine or Thologian.

The feast nf SS. Nereue, Aeltilieue and Domitilla preserves the memory of three Roman martyre of the first century. St. Domitilla is thought by some to have bean the wife of the consul Clement, with the other two martyrs a tier servants. Her name has been given to the eutatiouib in which all three were buried.

St. Erconwald was Biehop of London in the seventh century. A Benedictine, he founded the monastery at Chcrtsey, where he himself was for some time Superior. Many miracles are eaid to have been performed at his tomb in St. Paul's in testimony to hie sanctity.
