THE CAUSE OF THE ENGLISH MARTYRS New Ferry Priest's Work

The Rev. Dr. W. Kelly, assistant priest at Se John's church, New Ferry, has been appointed assistant postulator to the cause of the canonisation of the English Martyrs by the Bishops of England and Wales.

His task will be to prove that the Catholic men and women who were martyred from the reign of Henry VIII to the reign of James 11 were put to death solely for their religious convictions, and to exclude anybody who was put to death for political motives,

The work will entail a large amount of historical research. and will involve visits to the Public Record Office, London, and investigation of the archives in this country and on the Continent. Subsequently, Dr. Kelly will undertake the compilation of lives of the martyrs.
