New Trade Route
A modern and very up-to-date motor road is to be built between Palestine and Iraq. (By the way, do you know where they are on the map? If you don't, look them up!) This will open up a new route for trade between two countries which are very rich and productive. This road will benefit Great Britain's trade, and be of great advantage to Palestine as well.
American Floods Again
Floods have broken out again in the United States, and part of the Ohio valley is under water.
Since floods are so frequent in America, there is a very efficient organisation to relieve the people whose homes are flooded or destroyed. We have no idea in England of the amount of work and planning which this needs.
Many thousands of people have to be fed, and, if they have been hurt, looked after as well. Besides this, the water supplies have to be kept fresh, or else everybody would get ill. So you can imagine that where there is a big flood, it costs a very • great deal of money.
