The Pope's Work For Relief

Praised by Hoover

The former American President, Herbert Hoover, expressed his appreciation for the Pope's " substantial contribution " in alleviat. ing hunger and suffering throughout the world, in a private halfhour audience with Pope Pius XII, which he had on February 17.

Mr. Hoover declared that the Holy Father had been very co-operatiye in his previous mission, when the Pontiff secured numerous contributions, especially from the Latin

American couetries. The former U.S. president also praised the substantial help given by the Holy Father through his appeal last Spring for the needy and hungry of the world. The Pope in turn extended his best wishes for the success of Mr. Hoover's mission.

Honoured by King Gustav of Sweden

The Pope has notified His Majesty King Gustav of Sweden, that he will be graciously pleased to accept the Prince Carl Medal.

It was reported from Stockholm on Thursday last that King Gustav had awarded the Prince Carl Medal to the Pope. The award is given to Swedes or foreigners who distinguish themselves internationally in any kind of humanitarian work.
