General Post for Vatican Diplomats

ROME
The arrival in Rome of Myron C. Taylor, President Roosevelt's personal representative at the Vatican, preceded an event without parallel in the world's history: the mass interchange of diplomatic representatives of the belligerent nations accredited to the Holy See.
Mr. Taylor has not been here since 1942, and Harold H. Tittmann, charge d'affaires, has resided at the Vatican throughout the period of American participation in the war. When the President's representative alighted at a nearby airport and took up his residence in a hotel in Rome, Mr. Tittman had already completed arrangements to move out of the Vatican.
His taking up residence in Rome was but part of a large transfer which included the following elements; removal from Vatican City to Rome of the Ambassadors and Ministers accredited to the Holy See from the United States, Great Britain, Poland, Belgium, 'AT°. slavia, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay
and Venezuela; removal from Rome to Vatican City of representatives of the Axis and of other countries accredited to the Holy See. These latter include the representatives of Germany, Japan, Rumania and Slovakia. Argentina and Chile maintained diplomatic relations with Italy, so their representatives resided in Rome throughout the war and will remain here.
VICHY STAYS
The French Ambassador, Leon Berard, long a resident at the Vatican, will continue his residence there, as he represents the Vichy Government. Hungary's Ambassador and members of his staff, who espoused the Allied cause shortly after the entrance of the Allies intd Rome, wig remain in the city.
Finland's Minister to the Holy See is expected to enter Vatican City. Belgium's Ambassador iemained in Rome long after the outbreak of war. It is thought that this might have been due to the intervention of the Italian Crown Princess, who is a sister of King Leopold of the Belgians. The Ambassador moved into Vatican City in May, only a few days before the Allied entry into the city. He will now return to Rome with the other Allied diplomats.
Representatives from the United Statea, Great Britain, France and Poland had apartments in the Courtyard of St. Martha in Vatican City, South American diplomats and the Chinese representative had quarters in the Palace of Justice. As the Axis diplomats are fewer in number than the Allies, it is expected that the Palace of Justice can now be returned to normal usage.
CHILDREN HAVE FUN The Vatican supplies food for diplomats and their families residing within its confines. Children of diplomatic families had the remarkable experience of spending several Christmas and Easter vacations at the Vatican, while they attended the regular school term in Switzerland.
have personally seen children of Allied diplomats happily riding their bicycles on the sloping, curving roadways of the tiny Vatican State. and have heard some of them eagerly express their views on the war, from the vantage-point of their safe refuge at the Vatican.
