THE MISSING PASSAGE In Censored Belgian Pastoral

We are now informed that the text of the recent pastoral letter on the bombing of Belgium by the Cardinal Archbishop of Malines was correctly broadcast from both the French and Flemish-speaking Belgian stations, except that the following passage was omitted: Primate of Belgium and successor of Cardinal Mercier of illustrious memory, I have sought during the past four years within the limits of the means at my disposal to fulfil my duty towards my battered fatherland. I have raised my voice when necessary. To-day equally I must he allowed to speak the truth with all frankness and loyalty."
It is not surprising that the Germancontrolled radio did not wish to evoke the memo's,' of Cardinal Mercier nor allow Cardinal van Roey's protests against deportations and forced Sunday labour to be recalled.
