From Mr John Bunting SIR — It is a little surprising to hear that Prof Richard Dawkins declined a debate with Quentin de la Becloyere on the grounds that he had little interest in the latter's "inherited" religion (Charterhouse Chronicle, September 29), As we all know, Dawkins has been positively obsessed with religion for years, but if you're out to discredit something it pays to pick your evidence carefully.
If I wanted to discredit science, I suppose I could pick on eugenics, the Lysenko affair, or the recent drug trial that went disastrously wrong; but it would hardly be honest to imply that these were typical of science in general.
