FOUNDED 100 YEARS AGO

THE Liverpool parish where Cardinal Godfrey spent nearly two years as a curate (1917-19) celebrated its centenary of foundation lust Sunday. It is St. Michael's, West Derby Road, and to mark the centenary occasion Archbishop Heenan presided at High Mass and preached. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress (Alderman Peter and Miss Mary McKernan) attended.
When the mission was first established in 1861, parishioners attended Mass in St, George's Industrial Schools, West Denby Road. The foundations stone of the present church was laid by Bishop Goss in 1864, and the opening was in October, 1865.
