Many thrills were provided for a large gathering at Gorton Baths, Manchester, on Wednesday of last week, when the fortyfirst annual gala of St. Francis' Swimming Club, Gorton, was held. Thirty-seven events and an exciting polo match made up an excellent programme.
Councillor W. P. Jackson, J.P.,–presided, and presented the various trophies. During the interval he also presented the shield and medals won by St. Francis' junior football team as champions of the Manchester Junior League last season.
The Very Rev. Fr. Harold, 0.F.M., the new Guardian, who was making his first public appearance since his appointment as Guardian, was given a most enthusiastic reception.
