Opponents of Mgr Kent

Some of the most virulent attacks against Mgr Kent during the past week have come from some Catholic Conservative MPs.

Mr Michael Brotherton, MP for Louth, described him as doing "the work of the Kremlin, which is an organisation that is patently anti-Christ."

Sir John Biggs-Davison, MP for Epping Forest, said that "the scandal of Mgr Kent's desertion of priestly work for political miltancy should be ended at once."

But Mr Norman St JohnStevas, Conservative MP for Chelmsford, said he "would not support in any way a witch-hunt against Mgr Kent."
