A FALSE edition of Cardinal Wyszynski's "Holy Cross Sermons" is being circulated through Poland by post. The text contains grave distortions of the Cardinal's book and more than 20 pages of the original have been left out.
The Secretariat of the Episcopate of Poland has also pointed out that one of the sermons is spurious and was never delivered by the Cardinal as part of the Holy Cross series or on any other occasion.
It is not yet known who is behind the despatch of the false edition. The original edition, printed by the Santa Severa Press in Rome, was sold out by 1975.
The false edition differs from the original only in content. The printing, format and binding are a careful copy of the original. The Secretariat of the Episcopate of Poland has issued a statement stressing that the views contained in the book are alien to the Cardinal. "This new text is in full contradiction with the Catholic and social views of the Primate of Poland. It contains such errors and opinions which could never have been formulated by the Primate," it says.
