THE newly elected president of the Fifth World Health Assembly of the United Nations World Health Organisation. Dr. J pan Salcedo, Minister of Health in the Philippines, is a noted Catholic lay leader.

He is the father of six children, the eldest of whom is a Jesuit student.

He sent two cables to his wife from the Geneva meetings.

One asked her to attend Mass with their children to pray for the success of his mission.

The second announced his election as president and asked his wife and children to offer a Mass of thanksgiving.
