NEW official figures just published show that in the past year 116.839 converts were received into the Church in the United States, Alaska and Hawaii. This brings the total in the past 10 years to 1.040.839.
The total Catholic population of the United States rose to 29,241.580. Six dioceses have each more than a million Catholics.
There are now three Cardinals. 27 Archbishops, and 158 Bishops. Priests number 44.459, an increase of 570, and nuns and sisters 156,696.
Infant baptisms increased during the year by 44,759 to a total of 1,018,303.
