APPOINTMENTS S.V.D.
It is officially announced that the Rev. Leo Hargarten, S.V.D., until recently rector of St. Richard's College, Hadzor, has been appointed vice-provincial of the recently-erected AngloIrish vice-province of the Society of the Divine Word. The Rev. Frederick Spilleamp has been appointed rector of St. Richard's College; the Rev. Henry Prince, of St. Patrick's Mission House, Donamon Castle, Co. Roscommon, Eire.
JUBILEE Canon Chris tall
One of the first priests to be trained at Wonersh, Southwark's diocesan seminary, Canon Robert Christall, of St. Joseph's, Epsom, will celebrate his Sacerdotal golden jubilee on July 18. The Canon has served at Brighton, Surbiton, Shoreham, Walworth, SIMdon and, since 1920, at Epsom. He was appointed Hon. Canon in 1938. A public presentation will be made to him by members of his parish in the grounds of the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Epsom, on Saturday, July 19.
AN Travelling Mission
The centres to be visited this week are Bowlhead Green, in the parish of Godalming, and Puttenham, in the parish of Ash, Surrey. Mass will be said on Sunday, June 8, at Our Lady's Chapel, Bowthead Green, at 8.30 and at Home Farm, Puttenham, at 10. Mass on Saturday will be at the Police House, Puttenham, at 8 a.m.
For Catholic Mothers The Union of Catholic Mothers' Rest Centre at Hayling Island is booked up until the end of August. Mothers will be able to find rest, health and happiness by the seaside. Under the auspices of the Southwark C.P.E.A. a meeting will be held at the Town Hall, Anerley, on June 19, at 8 p.m., at which Mr. C. I. Kelly, of Ilford, will speak on " Do Parents Really Count?"

Sea Sunday will be observed on June 29 in the following dioceses: Weatmins
ter, Leeds, Northampton, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Salford, Shrewsbury, Southwark and Nottingham. In order to meet local circumstances the Ordinary has appointed July 13 as Sea Sunday in the following dioceses: Birmingham, Brentwood, Cardiff, Clifton, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Ilexham and Newcastle and Menevia.
PUBLICATIONS
The photographic section in the June issue of the Westminster Cathedral
Chronicle continues to provide an
example of just how good this sort of work can be-if the pictures are studied and presented with appreciation. Here we have reproductions of Greco's St. Peter and Titian's John the Baptist, be sides quite beautiful architectural studies. The usual high standard of literary contributions is maintained.
Mr, F. W. Chambers continues his "Reminiscences in the current issue of the Southwark Record, a fine example of what a diocesan magazine can be.
The Don Bosco Journal, the first number of a Scottish publication, from
the Guild of Catholic Teachers, might well serve as a model, in layout and content, for those who will, we hope, start similar work in England. It is a monthly, priced at 6d., and edited by Mr. Frank MacMillan. Contributors include Mr. F. J. Shred, Mr. W. Barry, Dr. P. McGlynn, of Glasgow University, and Mr. John Durkan. The Catholic Voice, a digest, on a much higher plane than one expects in this class of publication, comes from Ireland. The June issue offers excellent fare, ranging from essays on historical, philosophical and literary subjects. Variety in contributions and dignity in presentation make The Ampleforth Journal, for May, attractive fare, even for those who have no direct attachment to the college. The photographs published are very good and among the most valuable articles the one on " Hugh Dormer's Diaries " is outstanding. The summer issue of The Ransomer contains an interesting article on the " Southwark Travelling Mission " by Fr. Philip Donnelly.

Interesting features of interest to old boys and for those interested in school sports.
The Pentecost issue of Magnificat contains articles by Fr. A. M. Roguet,
0.P., J. D. Crichton and the conclusion of a serial article on the " Mystical Theology of St. Paul." The June issue of Combat, a Y.C.W. publication, is cleverly edited and will be attractive to most intelligent young people. The cover is particularly welldesigned and there are contributions from Pat Keegan, Ted Trevillion and Tom Bryan.
