Catholics in New Year's honours
SEVERAL LEADING Catholics, including Mrs Sarah Hogg and Catholic Herald director Rocco Forte, were among those in the New Year's Honour list.
Sarah Hogg, a former journalist who until recently headed the Prime Minister's policy unit and is a governor of St Mary's School, Ascot, received a life peerage for her services to politics. Mrs Hogg, who is married to To minister Douglas Hogg, is the daughter of Lord BoydCarpenter.
Rocco Forte, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Forte plc., was awarded a knighthood for services to tourism.
The famous cook, broadcaster and spiritual writer Delia Smith, who is famous for making cooking look easy, received an OBE.
The world of Catholic education also contained some award winners; MBEs were awarded to Mary Bernadette Clarke, headteacher of St Vincents Catholic infant school, Trafford, Manchester and Mrs Mary Scott, headteacher. of St Aloysius primary school, Glasgow. Mgr Bernard Tottman was awarded an MBE for services to the community in New Zealand.
