Yorkshire youngsters struggle to a draw in cold
ON JANUARY 15 a group of Year 7 pupils from St Mary’s, Menston, west Yorkshire, took part in a School Sport Partnership seven-aside football festival.
The event gave an opportunity for 14 Year 7 squad players to travel to Horsforth near Leeds to play in a com petitive event against boys from Ralph Thoresby, Benton Park and Horsforth schools. The event, played on AstroTurf and in extremely cold conditions, saw some exciting games. Mr King, PE teacher at St Mary’s said: “The St Mary’s teams battled well despite playing against much bigger teams. Unfortunately, size told in the end as our two teams managed just two draws out of the round-robin tournament. Despite this everyone had a great time.” In a separate development, six students from St Mary’s have been offered condi tional places to study at Oxbridge; three at Oxford and three at Cambridge. They are Joseph Murphy, William Normington and Francesca Roe for Oxford; and Sally Bridgewater, Eleanor Dickinson and Edward Hand for Cambridge.
