NOW THAT George Wardell January 16 has enlightened us, should not the Nicene Creed be updated into the Caversham Catalogue of Realised Eschatology?
Intriguingly Mr Wardell stops short at the opening words: We believe in one God, the almighty Parent. We know from his letter that avoiding sexism and medieval notions we must continue: maker of heaven and the universe of the galaxies. And of Jesus Christ, the Parent's only offspring, our president (lordship surely smacks of feudalism).
But do go on, Mr Wardell. When the Holy Father (Holy Parent?) comes to Britain. he cannot really discuss your proposal with the leaders of the other Christian denominations until he has the full text. Don't disappoint us.
London ECI Gerard Slattery MAY I remind George Wardell it was Christ Himself who instructed His followers to address God as "Our Father" (in the Lord's Prayer.) He Himself addressed God as "Father" when He was hanging on the Cross.
Incidently, anyone who believes that Christ was only a human being would have to believe that Christ's Mother was seduced by some unknown man before she was married to Joseph. But Christians are bound to believe that Christ was God's only begotten Son and that He was born of a pure Virgin.

Wilts PERHAPS I might share what I wrote about a month ago.
We believe in God — Our loving Father — Who has made all things visible and invisible.
We believe that God has chosen us and called us kv our name.
That He thought of us before he laid the foundations of the world! We believe that God's merciful love is for all time and for all men of goodwill.
We believe in the forgiveness of our sins and in the Kingdom of Heaven. in Heaven and on earth.
We believe in the gifts of Our Father of Faith, Hope and Love.
We believe that God's will must he done here on earth as ir is in Heaven in order to bring about the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.
We believe in the Birth, the Death and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Our God.
We believe in His Holy Spirit Who fills us with power from on high and enables us to witness to the Truth. We believe in the Virgin Marv. Mother of God and our Mother: whose Immaculate Heart is joined and inseparable front the Heart of her Son.
We believe in the Archangels, Angels and all the Saints, and that we are in communion with them and are blessed by the help of their prayers, We believe in the Holy Souls in Purgatory, who suffer because having seen God they will only rest in peace when they come into the splendour of His Presence for all eternity.
We believe that if we reject God COITIpletely and despair of His loving Mercy we will he Ca off from God for all eternity.
Amen ... We thank you Father. Son and Holy' Spirit that we believe!
Mrs Pauline J. Sexton Maidstone, Kent.
GEORGE WARDELL hopes his version of the creed will be ready for acceptance by the year 2000. Has he read it? Does he believe it? This is how it will run: "We believe in One God. the Parent, the Almighty, ... We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God, eternally begotten of the Parent ... Through Him/Her (the Parent) all things were made. For us 'humes' and for our salvation he/she came from heaven ... We believe in the on-going resurrection of the dead ...
Is he serious? Heaven (which anyone with any kind of imagination knows is up there beyond the clouds) forbid.
Christ said 'This is how you shall pray: Our Father And Paul told as to call Him Abba ... Daddy ... which we can all understand.
