NEW ORDER CAN ONLY COME Through Re-ordering of Human Life

—Christopher Dawson " No human power can stop the progress to the abyss," stated Christopher Dawson, lecturing to the Sword of the Spirit in London.

" Both Christians and the leaders of the Western Democracies have underestimated the force of the demonic will to power which is wrecking Europe, and a tremendous effort is needed to save civilisation. The two struggles ore indeed not the sante, The defeat of Germany might leave the spiritual evils of totalitarianism as strong as ever, while war by its nature favour's the spirit of destruction.

" Everything therefore depends on whether we can use the war not for purely destructive and material ends but to check the demonic forces that have been let loose on the world.

ONLY A MOVEMENT OF CHANGE

" In the modern world Christians and nonChristians alike have put their trust in the ' arm of the flesh,' they have believed the word of man rather than the Word of God. No human power can stop the progress to the abyss. Only a profound movement of change will bring the human spirit once more into vital relation with the Spirit of God.

" The new order for which we must look can come not through external conformity to Christian standards, but through a reordering of all the elements in human life and civilisation by the power of the Spirit. Such an ideal was the dream of political reformers and revolutionaries of the last two centuries, but since they rejected the power of the Spirit their ideal proved unreal,

" Only in the Spirit are power and freedom reconciled."
