Skerton, Lancaster
A now parish hall, capable of seating 350 people, has been built at Skerton, Lancaster, to replace the old wooden structure that has served the needs of the parish for 40 years. It was recently opened by the Mayoress of Lancaster, Miss M. Foster.
It is built of brick and rustic pebbledash, and besides the main concert and dance hall it has dressing-rooms, cloakrooms, tea-rooms and kitchens. The total cost is nearly £4,000, of which £1,200 has already been raised.
Hemyock, Devon
Hemyock, in the Culin Valley, Devonshire, is shortly to have a new church, the first since the Reformation.
At present it will only be a temporary building, and it will be served from Coliumpton, ten miles away.
Beaconfield, Plymouth
The Catholics of B ea co n f i el d. Plymouth, will soon no longer need to hear Mass in the temporary wooden chapel of St. Boniface's College. Through the generous gift of one of his priests, Mgr. Barrett, Bishop of Plymouth, has been able to buy a site fee a new church. The plot of land faces Beacon Park Road and Wisteria Terrace, and lies to the east of St. Boniface's College,
Flaxton, York
Plans for a new chapel-of-ease in Burdyke Avenue, Flaxton, York, were passed recently by the Flaxton Planning and Town Planning Committee.
The new chapel will serve the needs of the Water Lane housing estate, York. The chapel will be partly in the city of York and partly in the Flaxton Council's area. York Corporation has already approved the plans.
Wolstanton
Parishioners of the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Wustan, Woletanton, Staffs, have built a new Church hall,
called the Guildhall. The premises, which include a well-appointed stage, have been reconstructed from an old Army hut.
Headington, Oxon
A statue of St. Joseph was recently erected in the Church of Corpus Christi and SS. Alphonsus and Margaret, Headington, Oxon, and blessed by the Rev. William Flint.
It was the statue that originally stood in the old church of St. Ignatius, now the St. Joseph's schools, and was acquired by a parishioner. redecorated, and presented to the church.
Lewes
The new Church of SL. Pancras, Lewes, will be officially opened by Archbishop Amigo, Bishop of Southwark, on Sunday, April 30.
The Archbishop will afterwards administer the sacrament of Confirmation. Since the old church was pulled down over a year ago to make room for the new buildings, services have been held in St. Pancras' School, and weddings have been solemnised at the Presbytery in a specially licensed room.
