Teacher's daredevil wing-walk for charity

A RETIRED headteacher has braved the elements to raise more than £2,000 for Brentwood Cathedral's parish hall appeal.

Sister Rosario Staunton, who was principal of St Helen's, Brentwood, for 20 years, took to the skies last Tuesday in a daredevil wing-walk on an Utterly Butterly plane. Standing atop the traditional bi-plane she flew over the Chichester countryside at speeds of up to 150mph.

Sister Rosario confessed that it had been "a bit chilly" up there but it was lovely to have a bird'seye view of the countryside.

"I said a prayer before I went

up," she told The Catholic Herald, "and I held on pretty tight I can tell you."

Sister Rosario has confirmed she is willing to take on more fund-raising stunts to save the hall which she described as an invaluable parish resource.

"I'm open to ideas," she said.
