POPE PAUL called this
week for the world of mass communications Press, films, radio and television—to use its "wonderful techniques" for the uplift of humanity and the building of a new society "that will be freer, more alert, more responsible, more brotherly and more noble."
Broadcasting a message from Vatican City on Tuesday for World Communications Day this Sunday, the Pope praised the contribution made by mass communications media "to the enrichment of culture, to the spread of artistic forms, to recreation, to mutual knowledge and understanding among peoples and toward the spread of the Gospel message."
He stressed the responsibility of those engaged in directing youth and of public authorities using mass communications to discharge their responsibility "in the furtherance and the defence of the common good with due respect for true liberty."
