Svetlana's stay with Swiss nuns

MRS. SVETLANA ALLILUYEVA, daughter of Stalin, the Russian dictator, stayed with two communities of Catholic nuns during her sixweek stay in Switzerland. She went first to the Retreat House of St. Theresa in Burgbuehl, near Stantoni, conducted by the Sisters of St. Canisius, and later to the convent of the Visitation nuns near Fribourg.
Mrs. Alliluyeva attended Mass once at Fribourg Cathedral, but spent considerable time reading in her room and frequently visited the chapel to pray.
Sister Marguerite Marie of the Visitation convent, was reported to have saki: "All of the nuns saw her but none knew who she was. The Mother Superior had asked the nuns that no questions be raised about her. She was cornpletely free to come and go as she pleased. She is a very nice person in every way and very likeable.
Upon her arrival in the U.S, Mrs. Alliluyeva sa'd she was reared in a home where Cod was never discussed. She added: "But when I became grown-up I found that it was impossiNe to exist without God in one's heart."
Stalin's daughter had been staying at the home of Mr. Stuart H. Johnson, Sr., in Mill Neck, Long Island. Her companion is Mrs. Priscilla Johnson MacMillan, Johnson's daughter. Mrs. MacMillan will serve as translator of an 80,000-word manuscrint for a book by Mrs. Alliluyeva, which will be published in October.
