WILLIAM TEELING, M.P.
Said William Teeling, Conservative M.P. for Brighton :
" I know of no other way to bring the great nations of the West together for their self-preservation than the recent behaviour of Russia,
he Marshall Plan is absolutely essential to save Western Europe.
" Western Germany," he went on " unwilling to break from the idea of a United Germany. must now see that her only immediate future lies with a United Europe, Italy, France and Britain will inevitably come closer together and soon now I feel we will have a union of customs. of thoughts and of wealth.
" What will happen on trte other side of the curtain ? As each Western country is swallowed so, luckily, does the Mongolian huge majority in the Russian zone decrease. Those accustomed to Western comforts and culture increase their minority and their discontent.
" Two can play at underground movements, and the Catholic Church brings fresh adherents to the Soviet area from Czechoslovakia.
"Turkey once came near to Vienna the Serbs remained under her rule for centuries-but they and all the Balkans became tougher for their suffering. They never lost their faith nor their culture nor will they now.
" Britain must become in every sense the link between the New world and the Old to rescue it from a Russia who by her clumsiness is helping us more than we could have expected to unite."'
