AdLNGELS are commonly believed to spend most of their time in ethereal circles, but the Rector of Wimbledon's Sacred Heart parish, Fr. Leonard Boase, S.J., is trying to find a few on earth. To be more precise, Fr. Boase is looking for these " angels " right in his own parish.
One of the difficulties facing
priests in the parish is the number of newcomers who move into the area who do not know how to get in touch with them. Very often it is some time before the priests themselves get to hear of these new arrivals.
What is needed, suggests Fr. lime, is someone in every street to act as a link between the parishioners and the clergy, and between the parishioners themselves. Hence the search for a few local "angels"!
These "angels" could help tremendously by getting to know all the Catholics in their street, especially newcomers. And they could perform another valuable service by keeping the priests in touch with what is happening throughout the parish.
Recently. a group of parishioners spent a Sunday at the parish hall. discussing parish affairs.
It was agreed that area committees should be formed. The committees will be responsible for finding the "angels-. Also suggested for the parish was a survey, and a working committee will be formed to decide how to go about this. The survey will help to establish who the Catholics in the parish arc. and then, it is hoped, by using the "angels" service, they can be absorbed more fully into the life of the parish.
