Union thinks again

Readers who may remember my letter on unions and the abortion drive, published in your edition of November 3, may be interested to hear that the Coventry branch of NALGO recently voted by a substantial majority in favour of submitting a motion to next year's annual conference calling for the union to become disaffiliated from the National Abortion Campaign.

This, in fact, reverses an overwhelming vote by the branch to support abortion on demand taken before last year's annual conference.

1 should like through your columns to thank all those parish priests and clergy who saw to it that the meeting was widely publicised in churches throughout the city, and not least to those Catholic parishioners who do not normally attend union meetings but who took the trouble to turn up and vote at the meeting despite the cold and inclement weather.

John Carmody Coventry.
