reaches half way

Worth Abbey has passed the half way mark in its £500,000 appeal for urgent repairs to the monastry launched last July.

Nearly 500 contributions have brought the present total to £285,000. Industry and com merce have contributed £24,500 while £6,800 has been donated by charitable trusts. At least another 130 trusts have already been approached and the organisers hope to reach their target by April.

The Worth Festival, held in September last year, raised £9,000 but equally importantly brought together 600 people to organise the event which was attended by more than 15,000.

Other fund raising events have included a musical evening at Osterley House and a Christmas Concert in the Abbey Church given by the Worth Choir and Orchestra together with Janet Cannety Clarke and the DitcMing Choral Society.
