TELEGRAMS and good wishes from V.I.P.s poured into the Convent of the Franciscan Minoresscs at Belper, Derby, over the weekend, when Miss Klara Winter, a resident there, celebrated her 100th birthday.
The Holy Father sent his blessing. and messages of congratulations were received from the Queen, the Swiss Ambassador in London, and the Ministry of Pensions. A cake with a hundred candles was specially baked by the Sisters.
Miss Winter, a Swiss, is the marvel of the convent. Every morning she is up at 6 o'clock ready for Mass. Breakfast in bed is not for her. She likes to get up for all her meals.
