THE Archdiocese of Milan has opened an office of socialpastoral action to carry out the counsels of Mater et Magistra. the recent social encyclical of Pope John XXIII.
The office plans to co-operate Is ilk all organizations working for social justice.
Cardinal Nfontini. Archbishop of Milan, said the office will work with "all associations and endeavours of whatsoever denomination or origin, which in the boundaries of the archdiocese seek with declared Christian intent the welfare or workers. leaders and employers."
Milan is Italy's chief industrial city.
Cardinal NIonlini, also urged Catholics of his archdiocese to commemorate the Church's ecumenical councils bj. building 21 new churches. 20 for the councils of the past and one for the coming Second Vatican Council.
The Cardinal noted: "Milan has always marked with its own original and extremely expressive acts the history of Christian culture. "It should also pay tribute to the history of the councils ... by constructing new churches needed for the city's pastoral life, so that by the end of 1963, 21 new churches may be dedicated to saints or characteristic acts of the 21 ecumenical councils of the Catholic Church."
Cardinal Montini emphasized that more than 21 new churches are needed to keep pace with the development of the city's postwar growth.
